England fan fights for life after being floored by single punch in Walsall Yates's after Euro 2016 Wales game

The victim, 30 and from Willenhall, was left with a bleed on the brain after the attack in the Leicester Street bar at around 9.30pm. He was one of a number of people in the popular bar to watch England's 2-1 victory over Wales yesterday afternoon.

The victim's family were this afternoon by his bedside in Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Yates's in Walsall, where the man was attacked

Det Insp Greg Evans said: "We have a man who is currently fighting for his life in hospital and it's vital we find the person responsible.

"The victim had been watching the match with friends. There were a few people left in the pub after the game and there was a disagreement within, the offender punched the victim and then walked out. The victim was taken straight to the Queen Elizabeth hospital."

Det Insp Evans said it was not clear what triggered the attack, but there was no reason to suggest the attack was related to the football match.

He said anyone who was with the suspect should come forward so that they could be treated as witnesses.

Yates's, which has co-operated with the police probe, was allowed to open again this afternoon after being shut last night for forensic examinations.

Det Insp Evans added: "I would appeal to anyone who can assist us with this inquiry to get in touch. I would also appeal directly to the man in the image if he recognises himself to do the right thing and come forward."

Anyone who recognises the suspect should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
