Two in court charged with possessing weapon after gas canister set off in Stafford McDonald's

Two men have been charged in connection with an incident at McDonald's in Stafford where a gas canister was set off.

Christopher Wardle, aged 25, from Barrack Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Spencer Benham, aged 23, from Wilberforce Road in Leicester, were arrested yesterday morning by officers investigating the incident at McDonald's on Eccleshall Road on Monday night.

They have subsequently been charged and will appear before magistrates in Cannock today.

Wardle is charged with possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious gas and cause/adminster a noxious gas with intent to injure/aggrieve/annoy.

Benham is charged with possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious gas.

Three teenagers arrested following the incident have been bailed, pending further inquiries.
