William Dimmock, aged 24, has been charged with two counts of burglary. He is accused of breaking into a home in Crowther Street, Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, last Monday.
A 72-year-old man and 76-year-old woman tried to detain him before he went on to allegedly commit another burglary ten minutes later at Meadow View Terrace.
Dimmock, of Edward Street, Dudley, was bailed on condition that he keeps away from Whitmore Reans and Tettenhall, reports to police every day and doesn't contact any witnesses.
He will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court for a plea and directions hearing on May 16.
