West Bromwich murder: Three remain in custody after double stabbing

Three people remained in police custody today after a man died and another was seriously injured in a double stabbing in the Black Country.

Police, including armed officers, were called to the address in Campville Crescent, Stone Cross, West Bromwich, yesterday at 1.50pm. A man believed to be in his early 40s died at the scene.

Another man believed to be in his early 20s was taken to hospital. He was last night described as being in a serious but stable condition.

The two men and a woman arrested on suspicion of murder are in custody. Detective Inspector Warren Hines said: "We are investigating what happened. We do believe that these people are known to each and that there is no risk to the public.

"Inquiries are at an early stage and officers are looking at CCTV and taking witness statements. Forensic investigations are on-gong at the scene. If you have any information please call and ask to speak to me on 101."

spokesman said crews treated two men at the scene, including the man who died.

Near to the scene is Holy Cross Catholic Church – off Hall Green Road – and The Priory Primary School. Paul Knott, aged 53, a taxi driver who lives nearby, said: "This doesn't come as any surprise, we have been waiting for something like this.

"People used to fight to live on this estate, but over the years it has gone downhill, this tops off.

"I just looked outside the window, there were four ambulances, five police cars, two lots of armed police and a helicopter came. That's when we knew it was something serious."
