Wolverhampton pub raid: Talisman temporarily shut down after drugs raid by 45 police officers
A Wolverhampton pub raided by dozens of police targeting the drugs trade has been shut down temporarily, it was revealed today.
Officers wearing specialist gear including helmets with protective visors swept into the pub, which had around 25 people inside.
Four people were arrested, while cannabis worth around £600, a £300 'rock' of cocaine and a set of weighing scales were recovered, as well as hundreds of suspected illegal cigarettes.
Men aged 65 and 23 and a woman aged 52 were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs and possession of class A drugs. They were all bailed pending further investigation.
Another man, aged 29, was arrested for failing to appear at court and a fourth man, aged 46, was issued with a cannabis street caution.
Sgt Gavin Plumridge, who led the raid, said: "We have received an awful lot of calls from members of the public in recent months who are concerned about drugs and anti-social behavior at the Talisman, which is why we took this action.
"The pub has now been closed down for the short term pending a review of its licensing conditions.
"I hope this sends out a very clear message that we listen to the concerns of the community and will take robust action against organised crime and the use and supply of drugs across the city. The people of Wolverhampton deserve to live in an area free of crime and we will never hesitate to take action against offenders."
