The 19-year-old walked into the Little Dessert Shop on Queen Street with stab wounds to his leg, seeking help.

Staff helped the victim, from the Bradmore area of the city, and police and paramedics were on the scene after being called at 7.10pm yesterday evening. He is reported to have run up the street from the direction of Wolverhampton bus station.

One witness reported seeing the man, who appeared to have been bleeding heavily, being stretched into the back of the ambulance. He was conscious, wearing an oxygen mask on apparently using his phone.

Little Dessert Shop supervisor Roman Aslamzada said: "He came in and said 'can you help me?'. I said 'what's wrong?'. He said 'I've been stabbed'.

"I saw blood coming from his leg. We sat him down and called for help.

"The emergency services said we should get a defibrillator to stop him losing consciousness, so we went across to the Express & Star offices and asked for one.

"We hope he is OK."

West Midlands Police spokesman Billy Corrigan said tonight: "He is in hospital with his family. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"We've spoken to a number of witnesses already we've done an initial trawl of CCTV and forensics officers will be attending."

"The motive is unknown and we would appeal for anyone with information to contact officers on 101.
