Bosses say they have been amazed by the level of community support.

Burglars made off with elderly residents' presents at the Tividale care home last week, a day before their annual party.

But kind members of the community rallied to the aid of the home, ensuring the party would go on.

They have donated gifts, ranging from money to chocolates and wine, as well as making surprise visits to the home.

Kal Jagpal, home manager of Warrens Hall Nursing Centre, said: "We are so appreciative of all the support, from local businesses, friends and relatives and even from passers-by and complete strangers.

"All the donations meant that we could still hold our Christmas party last week – it was a huge success.

"I also want to thank my staff for going the extra mile, I am very proud of everything they have done for our residents."

Lorraine Crumpton, customer service assistant at the Co-Op in Rowley Regis, first heard the call for help, after a care home staff member visited the shop.

She said: "My mother in law is in a care home and the thought of that happening to her, I would have been gutted."

The Co-Op store donated chocolates, mince pies, cakes, biscuits and sweets.

Tesco Express in Rowley Regis is holding a collection for the home.

Staff members were today holding a 'Share a Smile' money collection for the home, running between 11am and 3pm.
