WATCH: Cousins jailed for knife raid on terrified Co-op staff
This is the moment two cousins robbed a Co-op while wielding a knife and a dumbbell bar.
Dwaine Keane, aged 33, threatened staff with a kitchen knife and demanded they open the till, while cousin Lee Keane, aged 40 from Smethwick, brandished the dumbbell weight bar.
Both men jumped onto the counter and helped themselves to cash, before staff alerted police as the pair fled on foot.
A nearby patrol car rushed to Simmons Drive, Quinton, where the duo had last been seen.
The brief description ensured the men, who were walking along the road, were identified and arrested within five minutes of the 999 call.
Cash and the weights bar were found on the men along with a balaclava worn by Lee Keane, of Lowry Close, Smethwick, but the knife was missing.
Officers called for back-up to search the area and the 6in blade was found in the street a few yards from where Dwaine Keane, Lower Higley Close, Quinton, was arrested.
Both men pleaded guilty to robbery, which happened at the Quinton Road West store at around 7pm on October 11. They were jailed four years each at Birmingham Crown Court.
Dc Darran Ford, from the force's Criminal Investigation Department, said: "Knife crime has no place in society and shop staff should not have to be confronted with this type of threat and the anxiety it causes.
"I'd like to thank each and every member of the public who called the police on that evening to alert us to the incident.
"We rely on your support to assist our investigations.
"The length of sentence reflects the severity of the crime and there is nowhere more fitting for these two than behind bars."
