In the past eight days stabbings and shootings have taken place in three different areas of the city.

Police today assured the public that the latest incident – which saw two men stabbed after being asked for cigarettes – would be fully investigated.

And Wolverhampton Labour MP Emma Reynolds says she will work closely with police to ensure all is being done to prevent future violence.

The stabbing happened yesterday in Whitmore Reans and saw two men aged 26 and 27 stabbed after asking for cigarettes in Francis Street.

Officers were called at 4.25pm and arrested a teenager in suspicion of wounding.

The 15-year-old was later bailed. It is the third episode of serious violence in the city in the past eight days.

Shadow housing minister Miss Reynolds, MP for Wolverhampton North East, today said: "I think it's really worrying. I'm talking to the police about the different incidents.

"And I'll be working closely with them to make sure all that can be done to prevent incidents like this in future is being done."

Police stepped up patrols in Eastfield after two men were shot and a third stabbed last Thursday.

Minutes later, two men arrived at Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital with gunshot pellet wounds to the shoulder and arm.

A 17-year-old from Deansfield Road was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed until May 23. And last weekend, two people were injured when gun and knife violence flared in Lichfield Street in the city centre.

Two people were injured in the trouble, near to the Britannia Hotel.

A 16-year-old boy from Wolverhampton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The schoolboy gave no indication of plea to the city's youth court. He is the second person to be charged in connection with the disorder, which broke out on April 19. A 17-year-old boy from the Oxley area of Wolverhampton was charged with affray and possession of a pointed bladed article in a public place. Both have been bailed util May 8.

DCI Pete Dunn, who is leading the probe into Sunday's Whitmore Reans stabbings, said: "Neither are critical injuries, however we are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area.

"We are treating this as an isolated incident."
