Richard Edmonds, aged 82, allegedly caused the crash which led to the death of keen motorcycle rider Allan Green, of Cradley Heath.

Mr Green, a 66-year-old father-of-two from Gawne Lane, died at the roadside after the crash.

He was thrown 130ft from his bike which became engulfed in flames moments after hitting Edmonds' Vauxhall Corsa.

Prosecutors accuse Edmonds, who lives in Dowles Road, Bewdley, of driving without due care and attention thereby causing the death of Mr Green.

The court heard Edmonds emerged from Six Ashes Road at the crossroads junction with the A458 at Six Ashes near Wolverhampton at around 2pm on October 30 2012, before being hit by Mr Green's BMW R1200 motorbike after it emerged from the brow of a hill.

With tears streaming down his face, Edmonds yesterday told Stafford Crown Court the horror of seeing flames engulf his car as his leg was trapped beneath the steering wheel.

"I couldn't get out of the car – my door was being engulfed by flames," said Edmonds, who denies the charge.

"Two people broke open the passenger door and they were shouting 'you've got to get out, it's going to blow'.

"They said 'we've got to get you, you're going to die'.

"Once I was out of the car, I was on my hands and knees – my legs were like jelly," he added.

The trial continues.
