Court bid to halt Oldbury car park racers
A court injunction is being sought to stop boy racers plaguing a key junction in the West Midlands.
Residents and businesses around the Birchley Island in Oldbury say drivers meet at a nearby car park shared by two stores.
There have been complaints about them revving their engines, playing loud music and leaving rubbish behind.
Police and Sandwell Council are now joining forces to take action via a court injunction.
David Manners, owns a classic car parts site next to the island, he said: "They don't tend to affect us during our opening hours, but we have turned up to find tyre marks outside the front of our business."
Councillor Mahboob Hussain, Sandwell Council cabinet member for town and neighbourhood services and the local ward councillor added: "I'm aware of a problem with boy racers meeting at the car park. There has been a problem with boy racers across Sandwell. I'm pleased that we and the police are doing something about it."
It comes after Staffordshire Police acquired an injunction to stop boy racers in parts of Cannock, which police bosses say has already had an impact on the problem.
Wolverhampton Council chiefs are also preparing to take legal action against boy racers.
Similar action has been taken in Birmingham, where 120 orders have been made against repeat offenders.
