Wednesbury Royal British Legion had begun to make repairs this week after the crash, which claimed the life of 55-year-old Polish lorry driver Henryk Jackowski.

But today, members discovered someone had broken in to the Church Hill club and smashed a number of gambling machines.

They also attempted to steal money from the machines.

Officers were called to the club at around 3am today to reports that someone had broken into the club.

Linda Holl, the club's secretary said: "We are all completely devastated. I woke up this morning and heard the news and felt gutted. We are trying to move forward after the crash and everyone has been wonderful and then something like this happens. It's just another blow as we try to pick ourselves up."

Two machines where damaged along with a wall and temporary studded partition put up in the days following the accident to make the club secure.

Councillor Elaine Costigan, who has supported the club since the accident said: "I think it's despicable. The community really came together to help the club and then we get somebody who does this."
