Officers were alerted by security staff to intruders at the Corals betting shop in Owen Street, Tipton just after 4.15am this morning.

Alarms activated once the burglars were inside and began tampering with the safe but the pair were thwarted when police arrived on the scene just five minutes later.

Despite fleeing the scene of crime empty handed two men, aged 34 and 40, were arrested nearby and were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary.

Insp Dave Southam, from Sandwell Police, said: "Our officers were quickly at the scene and able to stop two men down the road who were suspected of involvement.

"Both were arrested and are now helping with our enquiries this morning."
