Doughnuts caught out by YouTube footage

They were so proud of their 'doughnut' driving stunts that they decided to video them on their phones and upload the film on to social media.

But that proved to be the undoing of the three drivers, as it was seen by Staffordshire Police who then charged the trio with dangerous driving.

Officers took action after complaints of vehicles congregating on Alstonfields Industrial Estate and Queensville Retail Park in Stafford and driving dangerously in the area. The friends filmed each other – two in cars and another on a motorbike – performing skids and 'doughnuts', where the car or bike turns in circles leaving a doughnut ring pattern on the road caused by tyre friction marks.

Dense clouds of fumes are seen billowing from their wheels. At one point, the motorcycle's back tyre bursts through the pressure it is put under.

The men involved were Kane Boden, aged 21, of Eccleshall Road in Stafford, Luke Reynolds, aged 25, of Prescott Avenue in Stafford and Gary Johnson, aged 21, of Kingstand Road in Stone.

All three admitted driving without due care and attention when they appeared before magistrates in Cannock in October.

The police have released the video, bearing details of the punishment received by each man with a message warning: 'This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in Staffordshire.' The video also calls on residents to report anti-social behaviour by calling 101. Boden received three points and was fined £220, Johnson was fined £485, while motorcyclist Reynolds received three points and a £100 fine.

Force chiefs say they became aware of the YouTube footage and decided to re-release it as a way of cautioning others of the consequences of such behaviour.

Pc Christopher Dean, of Stafford Borough local policing team, said: "We were alerted to the activity by the community and began an investigation. The vehicles congregating in the area were causing a noise nuisance but more seriously the way they were being driven was endangering not only those involved but also innocent members of the public."
