Cannabis worth £650,000 found at historic Drakelow Tunnels
More than 400 cannabis plants worth an estimated £650,000 were seized at the historic Drakelow Tunnels today after police swooped on the site.
Around 30 officers, including dog handlers, took part in the raid on the underground network of tunnels uncovering the 'large and sophisticated' operation.
Police from West Mercia and Warwickshire discovered a network of hydroponic equipment including heating, lighting and ventilation fans.
The plants were in various stages of growth and cultivation.
Earlier officers executed an associated search warrant in a dawn raid at an address in Kidderminster.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and being concerned in the production and supply of controlled drugs.
A quantity of cash was also seized at the property.
Officers said they had been 'briefed on the historic nature of the site' and had taken this into account when carrying out the operation.
