Leigh Hallett, aged 33, and Carl Roberts, 29, chased a group of men through the town centre before delivering numerous blows as their victims lay on the ground.

CCTV footage played to Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday showed Hallett and Roberts at first walking away from three hooded men provoking them.

Shortly after, the pictures showed Hallett and Roberts chasing the group before catching up with them. Mr Bernard Linneman, prosecuting, said: "They set off towards the bus station and

Mr Hallett attacked Amad Ali, the person who had his jaw broken.

"He was knocked to the ground by Mr Hallett and Mr Roberts has stamped or kicked Mr Ali while he was on the ground. Mr Hallet punched him (Mr Ali) a number of times. Mr Amir Khan was punched by Mr Roberts."

Two members of the public were then seen to intervene and the defendants were arrested. Police described the men as being drunk.

The court was told Hallett, a father-of-two, had previous convictions for common assault.

His barrister Mr Harry Bowyer, said: "He's a man who is self-employed as a floorer. He has two children who he keeps in contact with."

Mr Michael Garnett, for Roberts, said: "He had already described that he completely lost himself and to use his words he 'saw red'."

Hallett, of Cherrywood Road, Streetly, admitted wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was jailed for 16 months.

Roberts, of Crowberry Close, Brownhills, admitted wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a class A substance. He was jailed for 34 months.
