A Christian centre's minibus which is used to take hundreds of children to different clubs and activities, has been stolen by thieves who smashed down a wall and gate.

The 16-seat white minibus, which has been used by Wednesfield Christian Centre, disappeared from the centre on Broad Lane South on Saturday night.

One of the centre's members first realised something was wrong on Sunday morning, when they called the pastor thinking there had been an accident.

Pastor Paul Lambert, aged 46, said: "We got a call from the member at around 7am saying they thought there had been an accident because of all the damage.

"The wall and gate were on the pavement, so we imagine the bus was driven through them."

West Midlands Police said a witness had seen the van being reversed through the locked gates, after they had stolen the keys by smashing through the side roof of the church. The vehicle has not yet been recovered.

Pastor Lambert added: "The bus is mainly used for our kids' clubs, drama club and youth services, used to pick up children and bring them to the centre. We have had to cancel some of the activities this week, such as our kids' club."
