Wine making thief spared prison term after Oldbury burglary
A burglar who was caught after leaving a drop of blood at the scene of the crime was spared jail by a judge to allow him to carry on his wine-making business.
Dwayne Shepherd, broke into a house in Oldbury and took a laptop, a £250 designer Manchester United watch and two other luxury watches.
Wolverhampton Crown Court was told yesterday that Shepherd, aged 24, had enrolled on a university business course. Shepherd of Bearwood Road, Smethwick, admitted burglary in March.
Judge Challinor gave him an eight-month sentence suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £2,600 compensation.
Sentencing, the judge said: "It looks as though you are going to put crime behind you and make something of your life. It is for that reason I am suspending custodial sentence."
