Armed robbery suspect, 16, in court after M6 chase
A 16-year-old robbery suspect was appearing in court today after a high-speed chase down the M6.
The drama began when an Audi, thought to have been involved in an armed robbery in Staffordshire, was spotted by police on the A449 in Penkridge.
The car sped off to the motorway and headed south before leaving at Junction nine at Wednesbury where more police were waiting and used a stinger to stop the saloon at around 9pm on Friday.
Two other suspects escaped after running away from the abandoned car that was believed to have been involved in a raid on Top Shop, Littleworth, near Stafford, half an hour earlier.
Three male offenders armed with a short axe and hammer escaped with cigarettes after a staff member barricaded himself in the stock room.
The 16-year-old was today appearing at Cannock Magistrates Court charged with robbery.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery and pursuit.
