CCTV footage shows the thieves driving a black vehicle – thought to be a four-wheel drive – along a riverside footpath after breaking a padlock off a gate at Stourport Swifts Football Club.

They then drove across a rugby pitch to reach a shed at the cricket club in Harold Davis Drive, where it is believed one of the offenders was waiting, having loaded up the equipment onto trailer.

Professional lawn mowers, a heavy duty grass scarifier and a trailer were stolen in the burglary, which happened at about 5am on last Wednesday, before the raiders made off via the same route.

The 10-minute raid has stopped the cricket club from pressing ahead with its plans to attract more investment for its expansion, recently featured in Channel 4's grass roots cricket programme.

Police say cash earmarked for investment now has to be spent on replacing the stolen machinery.

Witnesses should call police on101.
