Police were called to the terraced house in Lea Street at 11.30pm on Sunday, where they found the 25-year-old woman.

She is being treated in intensive care at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A man has been arrested by police on suspicion of attempted murder.

Neighbour Sue Candlin, aged 50, who lives three doors away from the woman's home, said: "I'm very shocked and I can't stop thinking about it.

"I've only ever said hello to her and don't know her name but she's got a little boy, aged about four."

A 24-year-old man was arrested six miles away in Hagley.
