Woman hurt in Oldbury McDonald's raid

Workers were threatened and a woman was taken to hospital after robbers targeted a McDonald's restaurant in Oldbury today.

The two men struck at the branch in Halesowen Street at around 6.40am.

Staff members were threatened and a handbag belonging to one of them was stolen. Detectives are now investigating and the store was closed this morning.

West Midlands Police spokesman Pete Edney, said: "We were called just after 6.40am today to reports of a robbery at McDonald's in Halesowen Street.

"Two men walked in to the restaurant and threatened members of staff before taking a handbag belonging to one of them.

"The men left and drove off in what was believed to be a grey coloured Vauxhall Astra. One woman suffered a minor arm injury."

At the scene this morning there was a police car blocking the entrance to the drive through and the restaurant, which is located close to the town's large Sainsbury's store.

Officers were at the scene and appeared to be interviewing people inside the restaurant. CCTV was also being inspected.

A spokesman for McDonald's, said: "We can confirm a robbery took place at the Oldbury Ringway restaurant at around 6.45am this morning.

"We are offering our full support to those staff members affected by the shock of the incident and we are co-operating fully with the police in their inquiries."

West Midlands Ambulance spokesman Chris Kowalik said one rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene and the injured woman was taken to hospital in that car.

Meanwhile, Jenny Duggan wrote on Twitter: "I've heard it was armed robbery disgusting if it is lot of youngsters work there."

Anyone with information in connection with the robbery should call police on 101.
