Police in fresh bid to stamp out Sandwell burglaries
Patrols are being stepped up across Sandwell to stamp out burglary this summer. Operation Sunshine has been launched to target key locations and offenders, and remind people about simple crime prevention steps.
Despite seeing a 17.4 per cent reduction in burglary between April 2012 and March 2013 compared to the same period the year before, police have said they are determined not to let the hot weather affect the trend.
The campaign includes increasing the number of offenders charged.
Officers will be stepping up patrols in Smethwick, Oldbury and Rowley Regis during the campaign.
In addition, neighbourhood officers will be working closely with the community to raise awareness, visiting local residents, community centres, places of worship and business premises to spread crime prevention messages.
Sgt Sharon Jones from Smethwick police station said: ""The operation aims to keep burglaries down but we also want to show our communities that we are out and about."
