Ademola Richard Omodeni, aged 24, was seen on CCTV repeatedly returning to the toilets at Queens Square Shopping Centre, West Bromwich, waiting for someone to enter, Sandwell magistrates heard yesterday.

Mr Peter Smedley said the girl did not realise what Omodeni was doing at first during the February 21 incident but she noticed him the second time he peered over the door and waved a fistful of money at her.

The girl and her mother quickly left the toilets and alerted a cleaner, who locked Omodeni in until police arrived.

The court heard Omodeni of Hales Road, Wednesbury, had been found guilty after trial of observing a person doing a private act and had also been found guilty of outraging public decency for a separate offence on February 15.

Mr Smedley said Omodeni, who is a self-employed sales rep, had visited the McColls Newsagents in West Bromwich on February 15 and was observed by two women workers selecting a pornographic magazine from the top shelf and then performing a sexual act. Omodeni denied the two offences but was late for his trial and was found guilty.

He admitted failing to surrender to the court bail at the appointed time. Mr Mandeep Bassi defending, said he needed help. Magistrates jailed him for 26 weeks for the two charges – a total of 52 weeks – and one week for failing to surrender.
