Baseball bat attack on Hednesford man near bridge

A baseball bat-wielding thug left a 30-year-old man with serious head injuries in an attack in Staffordshire.

The victim from Hednesford is in a stable condition and is being treated at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the assault on fields off Cleveland Drive, Chadsmoor. The man was attacked at around 6.30pm on Friday on an area of land known locally as 'The Bluey'.

He was sat near a footbridge over the brook with three friends when attacked.

The suspect is described as a white man aged between 20 and 30, around 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall and slim. He had brown shaven hair and a tanned complexion.

He wore a white vest top and dark shorts.
