Police today launched a public appeal for information after an eighth mugging of a person aged over 70 since April – the latest being an 80-year-old in Coseley.

Officers believe all the attacks, which see victims targeted for their purses and wallets from behind, have been carried out by the same person.

As part of their search for the suspect they are looking for a silver Renault Megane or a silvery-green Ford Fusion.

Officers say the Fusion, which was stolen from Dorothy Road in West Bromwich in May, has a distinctive fault which means when the brakes are applied all other outside lights turn off.

They are trawling CCTV, interviewing victims and speaking to witnesses as well as carrying out house to house enquires.

Police patrols have also been stepped up across the Dudley borough, with officers alerting bank and post office security staff over the series of offences.
