Walsall town centre attack victim left seriously injured

The victim who was seriously hurt in an attack in Walsall town centre has suffered a potentially 'life changing' injury, detectives have revealed.

Police are now trawling through CCTV in the area to search for clues to the assault which left the man in his 20s with a serious head injury.

A friend of the man received minor injuries as he tried to escape the attack which happened in Bradford Street at around 3.30am yesterday.

The more seriously injured man remains in a critical but stable condition.

Detectives cordoned off the scene and part of the town, including some shops and market stalls, remained sealed off for more than 12 hours to preserve forensic evidence.

Det Insp Harry Harrison said: "A young man is in hospital with a potentially life changing injury and we need to piece together what happened in the early hours.

"We are confident that local CCTV will help with our inquiries, but in the meantime we are asking for anyone who has not yet spoken to police to come forward if they witnessed the attack, or have any information about those who are responsible."
