A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was struck with the tool, in Hagley Road, during the early hours of Sunday.

He has been discharged from hospital and is now recovering.

The pair, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of wounding and released on bail.

A 43-year-old man who had previously been arrested is also on police bail pending further investigation.

Images of two suspects were released by police earlier this week.

Dc Ian Tomlinson, of West Midalnds Police's Force CID, said: "I'd like to thank the public for the response we had after distributing the images to the press and sharing them on social media.

"We rely on information from the community to help us in the fight against crime and remind all our residents to contact us if they witness any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.

"This was a really vicious attack and we have been following a number of lines of enquiry as part of the investigation.

"Dedicated officers continue to work in the town centre at all hours of the day to ensure it is a safe place to live, work and visit.

"We would continue to ask anyone who saw anything early on Sunday morning and might be able to help our investigation to contact us."
