A trial yesterday started for Dominic Santos Fraser, aged 32, from Highfield Road, Tipton, who denies murdering Kevin Hadley in a fight at The Lounge Bar in Market Place, Tipton, on October 16.

The jury in the trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court was yesterday told by prosecuting solicitor Mr Gordon Aspden that Fraser also launched two 'penalty kick' style attacks on the head of Mr Hadley's unconscious father, also called Kevin Hadley, during the same incident.

Fraser denies a second charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with the attack on the father.

Mr Aspden told the jury that Mr Hadley, who was 30, and his father had been drinking in Tipton and West Bromwich before the incident, and by the time they reached The Lounge Bar they had consumed 10 pints of beer. An altercation then occurred between Mr Hadley and a friend of Fraser's.

Mr Aspden said: "For no apparent reason Kevin Hadley Jnr approached one of the defendant's friends who was with him. The defendant remained seated. There was a confrontation. Kevin Hadley Jnr was responsible for starting this trouble."

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the violence that then ensued involving a number of people in the bar, in which Kevin Hadley Jnr was hit with a pool cue by one man, and which showed another man stamping on him when he was on the floor.

The stamps, which Mr Aspden said were inflicted by Fraser, left shoeprints on Mr Hadley's face. The court was told that four other men have already been convicted of various offences in connection with the same incident.

Shazad Ali, 25 from Tudor Street, Tipton, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Kevin Hadley Jnr at an earlier hearing. Roy Cross, 30, from Powis Avenue, Tipton, has pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm on Kevin Hadley senior, and to attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent.

Sadaqut Ali, 32, from Madeley Road, Kingswinford, has pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and Hafizur Rahman, 30, from Tudor Street, Tipton, pleaded guilty to using threatening words or behaviour.
