Three Wolverhampton men quizzed after officer pinned by stolen Audi
Detectives were today still quizzing three attempted murder suspects from the Black Country after being given extra time to detain them following a dramatic incident in which four police officers were injured.
Police have also revealed that a white Audi RS5 car which was driven into officers, pinning one against a van, was a stolen vehicle.
Three men, all in their 20s and from Wolverhampton, were arrested soon after the incident, which happened on Tuesday morning in Stoney Lane, by an alleyway leading alongside Tesco Express to Stourbridge Road in Kidderminster.
Kidderminster magistrates yesterday afternoon granted a police application for a warrant allowing a further 36 hours to question the men, who are held on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit robbery.
One officer was pinned between his police van and the Audi RS5, which reversed into him and then ploughed through a line of conifers, coming to rest against a house, balanced on a small retaining wall, with its back wheels spinning in the air.
Police went to the scene at 9.30am after a report that two men had been seen behaving suspiciously around the alleyway.
As the incident, described by witnesses as 'carnage', unfolded, the four officers were injured and a hunt across Kidderminster, using police dogs and the West Mercia force helicopter, was launched for two men who fled. The injured officers and one of the suspects, who was also hurt, were treated in hospital but later released.
Police said that a woman living nearby was also treated in hospital for shock.
Kidderminster police spokesman Dylan Evans said police were interested in hearing from anyone who saw the stolen white Audi RS5 prior to the incident.
