Father's anguish over claim of Wolverhampton baby kidnap
A father dashed through traffic, pleaded for police help and prayed to God after being told his baby had been kidnapped, a court was told.
Mohamad Amin was told by his wife Jaymin Abdulrahman that two men had waited for her to take rubbish to the chute before covering her mouth and snatching her newborn baby from their fifth floor flat in Wolverhampton, jurors heard.
The recording of the harrowing 999 call made by the husband was played to jurors in the case at Birmingham Crown Court. The court heard the dramatic moments as the desperate husband sobbed on the phone to the call handler.
During the call, Mr Amin told operators that he was driving through Wolverhampton from his job at a pizza takeaway to desperately reach his home in Whitmore Reans. He told them: "Someone stole my baby. My wife put the rubbish out, she was crying two guys have entered her house. Two men put a hand over her mouth. My baby is only five days old."
During the call Mr Amin then sobbed and pleaded with the operator to send police. He was reassured and instructed to stay on the line.
The jurors heard him say: "There was a knock on the door at 1pm. She looked through the spyhole but she didn't open the door because she didn't know them. When she has returned from the rubbish they put a hand over her mouth, they have gone inside, they have taken her (the child) and ran away."
The operator asked if the father had any family he was in dispute with but he reassured them that he had no issues with anyone.
Mr Andrew Smith QC, prosecuting, read a statement on behalf of a colleague of Mr Amin who described the moment he was told his child had allegedly been snatched. Reading the statement, Mr Smith said: "He came into the takeaway and he was crying. He said, 'They've taken my baby. I go home, I go home.' He was on the phone but talking to me too.
"In the time he left work and arrived at the flat it was 20 minutes. He had been searching in the rubbish for no longer than 10 seconds when he found her. He said, 'I've found it'. He was so upset he couldn't hold the baby. She wasn't breathing."
Abdulrahman is accused of the attempted murder of the baby after allegedly throwing her down a rubbish chute at the block of flats.
It is claimed the 25-year-old tried to kill her child at the block of flats in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton on September 8. Kurdish national Abdulrahman, whose address cannot be given for legal reasons, denies attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
The trial continues.
