Theft suspect spat at Blackheath Sainsbury's boss
A man with an 'appalling' criminal record spat at a supermarket manager after he was accused of stealing, a court was told.
Lee Embley, aged 37, assaulted HR manager Deborah Gramann at Sainsbury's in Blackheath.
He was arrested and taken to a police station, where it was found he had also driven while disqualified.
Embley, of Pound Road, Oldbury, had feared he could be jailed, and took a bag of clothes with him to court in case he was sent down, but Sandwell magistrates decided to suspend a 26-week sentence.
Mr Edward Ball, defending, said: "What the prosecutor did not tell you was that he was originally arrested for theft. He was upset, it was a matter that was discontinued."
Embley pleaded guilty to assault, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He was ordered to pay £100 compensation and an £80 victim surcharge.
