Christina Edkins murder suspect not able to enter a plea
The man accused of murdering Halesowen schoolgirl Christina Edkins during a daytime attack on a bus was not able to enter a plea today due to health reasons.
Phillip Simelane will not be fit to plead to the murder charge until autumn, after psychiatric assessments, Birmingham Crown Court heard.
His honour Judge William Davis QC heard how two psychiatric reports had been carried out on the 22-year-old of Dalkeith Street, Walsall, who is still being assessed at the secure mental hospital Reaside.
The plea and case management hearing has been rescheduled for September 6.
Christina, aged 16, died from a single stab wound to the chest after being attacked on the number 9 bus on Birmingham's Hagley Road on March 7.
She was travelling to Leasowes High School in Halesowen.
