Father-of-two Yasser Abbas, aged 28, was set upon by three men wielding weapons in a quiet cul-sac, in Alumwell, last month and later died from his injuries in hospital.

His uncle Tariq Hussain has asked for anyone with information to step forward, and voiced fears from the family that his attackers could strike again if they are not caught.

Mr Abbas, of Raleigh Street, Birchills, had sustained serious head injuries during the attack in the early hours of April 13 and died in hospital four days later.

Mr Hussain, aged 45, said: "It's been five weeks now and the family are worried that no-one will be caught. If they are not found, it could happen again. We want anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.

"As far as the family are concerned, there's no motive. He wasn't doing anything wrong. He was a family man."

His funeral on May 2 took place hours after his wife Shabam gave birth to a baby boy, whom has not yet been named, with hundreds of mourners gathering to pay their respects at Birchills mosque before a service at Streetly Cemetery and Crematorium.

The former Alumwell Comprehensive School student also has a four-year-old son, Daniel.

Mr Hussain said: "The family are shocked. It's a very, very difficult time. His four-year-old son is saying that his dad has gone to God and is asking what he needs to do to get to God.

"The new baby is okay. He's a good healthy baby. He looks exactly like his dad.

"When Shabam sees everything Yasser bought for the baby she is reminded of him."

The thugs struck in Madison Avenue as Mr Abbas and a colleague got out of a car to deliver an order, which is feared to have been bogus.

Mr Abbas's colleague suffered minor injuries.

The attackers fled through a small walkway at the end of the four-home cul-de-sac to a car parked on nearby Rippon Road.

Det Insp Gary Plant, from Force CID, who is leading the inquiry, said police were keen to speak to anyone who saw a dark coloured vehicle leave the Ripon Road area shortly after midnight.
