Sedgley drink-driver jailed for being danger to public
A convicted drink-driver caught behind the wheel over the alcohol limit has been jailed for eight weeks, after a judge branded him a danger to the public.
Simon Shaw was arrested by police after being caught by officers driving while over the limit along a Sedgley road last month.
The 24-year-old, who had been convicted of drink-driving 18 months earlier admitted driving while above the alcohol limit at Dudley Magistrates Court.
Sentencing him yesterday District Judge Mr Graham Wilkinson judge described him as 'a danger to the public'.
"This is the second offence when he has been prepared to kill someone," he added.
He said Shaw, of Mason Street, in Bilston, had been spotted by officers in their patrol car as he drove his Renault Clio down the middle of Bilston Street on April 17.
After a short pursuit they saw him stop outside a house on Greenway, the court was told.
He had banged on a door and been let inside where officers found him a few minutes later brushing his teeth in an attempt to hide the evidence of his drinking.
A breath test found 59 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of Shaw's breath, almost twice the legal limit of 35.
Mr Wilkinson said that 18 months earlier Shaw had been convicted of drink-driving, serving a driving ban of 12 months. He said the defendant had completed the drink- drive rehabilitation course .
In addition he banned Shaw from the road for three years.
He said: "You're going to get a short sharp shock that shows people like you need to take responsibility for their actions."
