Richard Robert Pitt, 19, of Tipton, was found guilty of riding a motor bike without being the registered keeper, which was in breach of his Asbo.

Pitt was given the Asbo in January 2012 for repeatedly taking motorbikes without consent and driving them whilst disqualified. He is currently subject to an eight- week suspended sentence order which was issued in April 2012, which could now be activated as a result of this conviction.

Mr Michael Taylor prosecuting told Sandwell Magistrates Court on Wednesday that the motorbike in question which is worth around £600 was stolen from outside a property in Tipton on December 9 last year.

On February 8 two police officers were called to College Fields off Woden Road South at around 5.15pm and when they arrived saw in the distance two males with a motorbike.

PC Terrence Hill said he saw Pitt get on the bike and move it several feet. His colleague chased the pair and caught Pitt.

Pitt told the court at his trial he had nothing to do with the bike, and was just jogging through the fields on his way to to meet his girlfriend in Friar Park when he was arrested. He said it was a case of mistaken identity.

PC Hill told the court that Pitt was definitely the same man who had been on the bike, because he could see the distinctive yellow waistband of his boxer shorts that was sitting above his dark trousers from where he was on the fields.

Pitt, of Turton Road, was found guilty.

He was released on bail with conditions and will be sentenced on May 20.
