Officers were called to reports of a vehicle being taken in Lawfred Avenue, Wednesfield, and found a man with serious head injuries.
The man, who turned out to be an illegal immigrant from Vietnam, claimed to have been beaten up during a robbery. Police then discovered the drugs farm while making inquiries.
There were a total of 253 cannabis plants at the property with some being grown in the loft.
Experts later estimated the yield of the drugs at £116,000. Three people were arrested after the discovery last week.
One has been charged with the cultivation of cannabis while the others have been given police bail.
