Latvian-born Rozhe Vysotskene conspired to keep her 17-year-old daughter away from her boyfriend, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Vysotskene, of Wychbury Court, organised the snatch after her daughter moved out of her family home and in with her boyfriend.

Mr Howard Searle, prosecuting, said: "She formed a relationship with a man of African descent. The family did not approve of his ethnicity and he was from a different religious background."

Judge Amjad Nawaz sentenced Vysotskene, who had served six months while waiting for sentence, to a total of 16 months' custody.

He said he would suspend the remainder of her sentence for two years, but she would be subject to supervision for that time. The court heard that the mother-of-10, aged 50, arranged for her son Alexis to help her ambush the daughter but it believed he has now fled the country.

The girl was locked in her old bedroom but jumped out of a window and suffered fractures to her ankle, heel and lumbar vertebrae, which meant they protruded. Despite her injuries, she took a taxi back to her boyfriend's house before needing hospital treatment. Vysotskene pleaded guilty to false imprisonment on September 20 last year.

Mr Charnjit Jutla, defending, stressed his client, a widow who spoke through a Russian interpreter, was a proud mother. He said: "It is plain she is proud of her children and deeply remorseful. In hindsight she understands there was a better way of dealing with matters.

"Every time I have spoken to her she has expressed her concern for her daughter."
