Christmas presents stolen in spate of raids
Christmas presents, cash, laptops and jewellery have been stolen in a spate of burglaries across Staffordshire.
Burglars have been forcing open doors and windows to homes during the daytime. On one occasion, they scaled a 6ft garden wall to get in.
Seven break-ins have taken place in Burntwood and Lichfield.
Three homes in a row in Rugeley Road, Burntwood, were targeted, as well as homes in Cross-in-Hand Lane, Townfields, Kings Mews and Mawgan Drive in Lichfield on Monday.
One witness reported seeing two men in the Church Road and Farewell Lane area of Burntwood hiding items under clothing. Another reported two men acting suspiciously.
Both men were white, one was 5ft 6ins, wearing a black beanie hat, and the other 6ft, wearing a black and red checked hat with ear flaps.
Police are investigating the possibility that the break-ins could all be linked.
Det Con Adrian Smith said: "With the amount of property stolen, and over a wide area, clearly a vehicle was used. Please be extremely alert to anything suspicious, and report it immediately to the police."
Meanwhile, residents have also been warned to stay on their guard after two reports of a man calling at doors in Lichfield.
When the doors are answered, he asks for someone by name and then says he has the wrong address.
There was an incident on Tuesday in Wissage Road and on Wednesday in Christ Church Lane. The caller in Christ Church Lane is said to be eastern European.
