Compton Hospice's help plea after raid

Thieves have raided Compton Hospice in Wolverhampton, stealing 40 bottles of mulled wine due to be sold at the charity's first ever fundraising Christmas fair.

The raid comes just days after the charity's new shop in Perton was broken into. Bosses at the hospice in Compton Road West today appealed for fresh donations.

The thieves broke into the hospice's coffee shop, taking a buffet made for the Perton store's grand opening, as well as tea bags, coffee sachets, chocolate bars and crisps.

Compton Hospice spokesman Simon Cater said: "A lot of time and effort has gone into planning Sunday's Christmas fair.

"It's all a massive inconvenience for us. We can't believe people have stooped so low. We need every penny we can get. Times are hard.

"We realise it's short notice but if anyone can donate any bottles of mulled wine to us then that would be much appreciated."

The break-in was discovered by staff when they arrived today. Call the hospice on 0845 2255497.
