Adam Hammill, who joined the club in 2011 but is on loan at Huddersfield Town, attacked the two paramedics during a night out drinking in Liverpool last month.

One of them was left with a bleeding nose after Hammill struck her in a drunken rage.

The 24-year-old was yesterday sentenced to 12 weeks suspended for 12 months at Liverpool Magistrates' Court, after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing. Hammill, who had been out celebrating a friend's birthday, apologised for his actions and said he was "thoroughly embarrassed".

In a statement on the Huddersfield Town website he said: "I would like to apologise to the people involved in this incident, as well as to the club and its supporters for letting them down. I'm thoroughly embarrassed by the whole affair and regret what happened."

Hammill was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, pay £350 compensation to both his victims, an £80 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
