Media business is finalist in national awards
Video, animation and livestreaming company Stone’s Throw Media is celebrating national recognition after being named a finalist for a national events industry award.
Mike Chinn, founder and director of the Wolverhampton-based agency, is on the final shortlist for online event producer of the year at the CN Agency Awards, organised by leading events industry title Conference News. In the latest of a run of award finalist placings, he and the Stone’s Throw team will find out the result when the winners are announced in a ceremony at Tobacco Dock in London on July 1.
Stone’s Throw Media was named as finalist for the team’s achievements in staging prominent online events during the Covid-19 pandemic and successive lockdowns. The ban on live gatherings saw events organisers switch to digital events, a specialism in which the agency has grown its expertise.
In 2020, Stone’s Throw Media broadcast the digital opening ceremony of the University of Wolverhampton’s new Springfield Brewery learning centre in place of a live gathering, incorporating video content and livestreams from city and university VIPs, as well as Minister of State for Universities Michelle Donelan and West Midlands Mayor Andy Street.
Another highlight was the 2020 staff awards for the university, also held in October, for which the Stone’s Throw team created a full 100-minute livestream watched by an extended audience including employees and their families over the internet.
Mr Chinn said: “After such a tough year for businesses, when we all had to adapt quickly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is pleasing to be named as finalists in these national awards. Stone’s Throw Media has always flown the flag for the digital talent in Wolverhampton and the Black Country so we are proud to be recognised by judges from some of the UK’s biggest brands.”
Founder Matt Weston said: “With strong competition from agencies nationwide who moved to provide digital alternatives to live events, it is fantastic to be named one of only eight selected by a leading industry title. We aim to compete with the best in our field in everything we do.”
Launched in 2011, Stone’s Throw employs eight staff and is based on Wolverhampton Science Park.
