Office space donation to help tackle period poverty
A Wolverhampton not-for-profit organisation has shown its continued commitment to helping the community, with a generous offering to a local project.
Paycare, a health cash plan provider, has gifted office space at its Paycare House offices in Wolverhampton city centre to support the work of Project GIVE, an initiative developed to help young people affected by period poverty.
Kevin Rogers, chief executive of Paycare, said: “It is an honour to be able to help the team at Project GIVE by providing them with an office to use as a headquarters and which is central to many of the designated donation points.
“As a health cash plan provider, educating people about health and the best ways to look after themselves is a huge priority, so we’re proud to be involved with such an important cause.”
Project manager and founder of Inspiring Healthy Choices, Kelly Walker-Reed, said: “For too long young people have been missing school because of their period. Whether that’s because of not being able to afford sufficient menstrual care, not feeling confident to discuss their bodies with an adult, or being worried about ‘flooding’ whilst in a crowd.
“The office space is an incredible gift that we are extremely grateful for. Not only will it allow us to be centrally located within the community, but it also gives us the space to take on more staff and volunteers to continue to drive the project forward and have a greater impact.”
Period poverty is said to be on the rise in Britain, with one in ten people aged between 14 and 21 unable to afford sufficient sanitary products.
Donations of sanitary items made by members of the community and local businesses, are already being delivered to schools across Wolverhampton for pupils to use however they need, whether that be for a single day, or to see them through the month.
Alongside these, Project GIVE will also see schools and wider organisations provided with training sessions to support existing sexual and reproductive health education.
A well-respected and dedicated not-for-profit health cash plan provider, Paycare has helped individuals, families and businesses across the Black Country and Wolverhampton protect themselves against everyday healthcare costs and bills for over 140 years.
