Paycare, a Wolverhampton-based health cash plan provider, has strengthened its commitment to tackling period poverty by bringing the initiative to its city centre headquarters.

Following its sponsorship of Motherwell Football Club’s trial to supply all 14 of its stadium toilets with free sanitary products, as well as West Bromwich Albion's stadium as part of the On The Ball campaign, Paycare has pledged to further support the initiative by introducing it within its office at Paycare House on George Street.

The On The Ball campaign was set up by Celtic fans Orliaith Duffy, Erin Salven and Mikaela McKinley to get free sanitary products in football grounds around UK.

Kevin Rogers, chief executive of Paycare, explained: “We’ve been watching with interest the support organisations and individuals are showing to the On The Ball campaign, and we wanted to get involved and do our bit to support not just fans of football, but our wider community too.

“For us, it’s not just about making essential sanitary products free and readily available within Paycare House for our staff, visitors, tenants, our policyholders and the wider community, but about making it a workplace where the embarrassment and inconvenience of bringing products into the workplace is removed, and which fully promotes inclusivity for all.”

Many countries are calling for more support for women from low income backgrounds who cannot afford basic menstrual products and are victim to ‘period poverty’. This is said to affect one in 10 women aged 14 to 21 in Britain, and nearly one in five in Scotland.

“We’re no stranger to supporting grass root teams through to premier league football clubs, as we absolutely recognise the community spirit football provides that reaches far beyond the love of the game. Which is why we felt it was important to support Motherwell in their efforts to making a positive difference to their fans and wider community, as well as to bring it back home to Wolverhampton by launching the initiative at Paycare House.

“We’re already in discussion with other local organisations and causes about how we can collectively work together to tackle the issue regionally. As a health cash plan organisation, we’re passionate about helping individuals access support for services they genuinely need, and we’re pleased to be part of such a worthwhile campaign.”

A not-for-profit health cash plan provider, Paycare has helped individuals, families and businesses across the Black Country and Wolverhampton protect themselves against everyday healthcare costs and bills for over 140 years.
