Deputy editor Diane Davies presented the cheque for £3,070 to Chris Mansley of the Midlands Freewheelers.

The money will help support the organisation's emergency rider service to NHS hospitals throughout the country.

More than 400 guests attended the black tie event at Wolverhampton Racecourse on June 7 as winning companies in the region were announced across 11 categories.

People were invited to make cash donations of £5 and above in the raffle to be in with a chance of winning a selection of prizes.

Among the prizes included first class Virgin Trains travel tickets, six bottles of champagne, tickets to a race night at Wolverhampton Racecourse, a gift card for the intu Merry Hill centre and tickets to the Jersey Boys at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

Express & Star promotions manager, Trish Penny said: "During the evening, we invited guests to take part in our charity raffle to raise money for the Midlands Freewheelers. Cash donations of a minimum of £5 were made for the chance to win a host of prizes.

"It was a fantastic evening – hosted by the brilliant Alan Dedicoat, best known as the "Voice of the Balls" on the National Lottery programme. Chris Mansley talked to our guests for a few minutes about the Midlands Freewheelers and urged them to dig deep."
