Businesses raise £10k for NSPCC at golf event
Business leaders from across the Midlands have put their sporting skills to the test, taking on a golf challenge organised by Wolverhampton-based brownfield specialist, McAuliffe.
The event, organised with engineering consultant Wardell Armstrong at the Edgbaston Golf Club, raised more than £10,000 for the NSPCC.
It pitted businesses against each other in a round of 18 holes and a ‘beat the pro’ competition. Over 19 construction businesses took part, including M&J Drilling, Georisk, Forkers and housebuilders Barratt Homes, Countryside, Amber Residential and Galliford Try.
Post-competition entertainment was provided by Birmingham-born actress and comedienne, Jo Enright, famed for her roles in hit TV series including Phoenix Nights and The Job Lot.
Funds raised will help the NSPCC’s West Midlands division with its ‘Speak Out. Stay Safe’ schools campaign. The programme is teaching children to recognise when something isn’t right and showing them how to get the help they need. Last year in Birmingham alone, the campaign reached more than 20,000 pupils at 68 schools.
John McAuliffe, group managing director at McAuliffe, and event sponsor, said: “It was fantastic to see so many Midlands-based businesses turn out to raise money for a very worthy cause.
“The NSPCC makes trained Childline councillors available to young people 24 hours a day, as well as going into schools to ensure pupils know help is there if they need it. These are vital services that we’re proud to support.”
NSPCC community fundraising manager Amanda Synnott said: “We are so grateful to McAuliffe and Wardell Armstrong for organising this great event and helping raise such a stunning total.
“The money will help our dedicated staff and volunteers reach thousands of children across the West Midlands and beyond with ‘Speak Out. Stay Safe’ and spread an important message.”
