The session, to be held at the Copthorne Hotel, Brierley Hill. on Tuesday, February 5, is aimed at HR managers, directors and business owners involved in people management.

With employment law ever evolving, 2019 looks set to bring a number of challenges reaching even beyond Brexit.

This year’s briefing session, with the employment team from George Green, will bring those in the HR sector up to speed on recent developments and highlight forthcoming changes in employment law. Brexit, however, cannot be ignored and there will be discussions regarding the settle status scheme and any EU migrant workforce updates – which are currently fluid.

A range of issues will be covered during the morning event including changes to the tax treatment of PILONs and termination payments plus updates regarding GDPR.

The team will also be on hand to give delegates a review on the legal position regarding references for employees and what information to include.

The potential pitfalls of disciplining someone who has a disability, an update on holiday pay, the national minimum wage enforcement, modern slavery and how the government's Good Work Plan will affect companies with workers in the so-called gig economy will also be covered.

The chamber and George Green have worked together on joint employment law briefings since 2008.

Employment law and data protection partner Tim Lang, who heads up one of the leading employment teams in the West Midlands, will be presenting. The firm’s leading data protection partner, Tim acts for employers and senior employees in a wide range of employment law matters including transfers of undertakings, unfair dismissal, discrimination and breach of contract. He regularly advises on data protection issues including subject access requests and is a part time fee paid employment judge in the South East region.

He is joined by employment law associate Michelle Wooding, who advises both employers and employees on contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including drafting and reviewing employment contracts and policies, providing advice in respect of handling disciplinary and grievance processes, drafting and advising on settlement agreements and assisting clients in pursuing and defending Employment Tribunal proceedings.

New employment partner Beverley Smith, who joined George Green in 2018, will also be on hand. Beverley has significant experience advising businesses, from SME to global PLCs, in relation to their people issues including complex tribunal claims regarding unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing.

The seminar is being held from 9am until 11am when breakfast will be served.

Delegates can book their place by registering on https://www.blackcountrychamber.co.uk/events/05022019/annual-employment-law-update-seminar/ or by telephoning Penny Griffiths on 01902 912316.
