Skills – the hottest ticket in town
Record numbers of young people have signed up to a three-day skills spectacular at Birmingham NEC next month that could help them launch their new careers.
And organisers say it shows the changing attitudes of young people to vocational skills – "they are chic not geek".
More than 75,000 people have already reserved their entry tickets for WorldSkills UK Live at the NEC from November 15-17.
The first two days of the three-day skills spectacular are completely sold out – and the free of charge Saturday tickets are being snapped up in ever increasing numbers
Neil Bentley, chief executive or even organiser WorldSkills UK said: “This is such great news – we have turned the tide re the attitude of the young where vocational skills are concerned – they are chic not geek.
“We have created a live and interactive immersive experience to unlock tens of thousands of rewarding pathways to the world of work.
“WorldSkills UK Live is a new fresh, concept incorporating careers advice, entertainment, information, face-to-face exchanges with businesses and have-a-go at skills.
“It is the best most inspiring money can’t buy ticket in town. There is nothing quite like it.”
Women and men will be competing in the national finals of the UK’s leading skills competitions while the UK’s biggest companies recruit for young talent against a background of music, rap and even Love Island doctor Alex George aiming to attract more young people to work for the NHS.
Designed to be the UK’s largest, and most fun, skills event – formerly known as the Skills Show – it aims to offer life-changing opportunities.

In addition, thousands of apprenticeships, traineeships, college courses and jobs will be available from dozens of exhibitors and commercial partners at the event.
