The home assistance business, which employs more than 3,000 across the UK, was said to have an impressive commitment towards every single employee.

The judges praised HomeServe for having gone through an amazing culture change with a defined vision that was clearly embraced by all employees.

The commitment to go the extra mile for customers and employees was also recognised.

The award was presented by Andrew Gadsden from sponsors Aspray24 and brand director John Greaves said: "This award is one that we are absolutely thrilled about winning.

"To get something like this is real recognition for the journey we have made over the past three-and-a-half years with chief executive Martin Bennett, who has take the business forward. We are really proud to have won."

Tony Bishop, who is assistant manager of HomeServe's Customer First initiative that gets things right for its customers, said: "I started off at HomeServe on the frontline and have been there now 13 years. I have enjoyed every minute of it. It has got better to work there as the years have gone on."

"We have the opportunity to make a difference for our customers in many different ways. Tony runs Customer First and what that does is if something is not right for a customer it gives us the opportunity to change it," added Mr Greaves.

HomeServe Membership, which was formed 23 years ago and has its headquarters at Cable Drive, says that it prides itself on being passionate about its own people. It has a simple mantra: "If our people are happy, they will take care of our customers and the rest will take care of itself."

Its investment in its people saw HomeServe last year being named in the UK’s top three best places to work by independent jobs and recruiting company Glassdoor and was also the only company from the home assistance sector in the top 50 list.

It was also given the UK’s best employer in the business services and supplies sector award by global business information provider Bloomberg.

As part of its Effortless 2020 strategy HomeServe has laid out a set of 'People Promises' that all employees live by.

The promises formalise the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility in its local communities and gives staff the resources and time to volunteer and support the causes and areas that they believe in.
