'Such a great event' - Praise for Halesowen skills fair as MP drops in

A jobs and skills fair supported by three Halesowen organisations drew praise from the area's MP after it attracted over 300 attendees this week.

The Halesowen Skills Fair made a return to the Cornbow Centre on Friday 21 March 2025, attracting over 300 attendees, supported by Halesowen College, Halesowen BID, DWP and Alex Ballinger MP for Halesowen.

The centre was packed as job seekers engaged with stall-holders, including training providers, voluntary organisations and a diverse range of employers from the local area. Exhibitors included West Bromwich Building Society, West Midlands Police, Home Instead, Vocational Training, NHS Thrive Into Work and Smart Works to name a few.

Alex Ballinger, MP for Halesowen, praised the event, stating, "I am delighted to see so many businesses and organisations in the Cornbow today and lots of local people looking for new job opportunities. I would like to thank Halesowen College, Halesowen BID, and the DWP for putting on such a great event."

Jacquie Carman, Principal and Chief Executive at Halesowen College said, "We are delighted to once more be involved with the Skills Fair. Events like this prove a greatopportunity for local people to develop their confidence and the skills they need to get work ready and secure employment.”

Vicky Shakespeare, Halesowen BID said, "Once again, the Skills Fair has been a great success, bringing local people and business together."

Julia Robbins, DWP said, "This event has been really useful in connecting job seekers with employers and training providers, providing valuable opportunities for career development."
